THE ARTIST
Daniel Guy Hast is a St. Louis-based artist whose work explores the intersection of disciplined structure and vibrant, emotive color. Since beginning his dedicated artistic journey three years ago, he has developed a style that prioritizes bold visual impact and technical sincerity.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Daniel served as a diver—a role defined by precision, physical resilience, and a unique perspective on the hidden depths of the water. In 2002, he moved to the St. Louis area. In addition to his creative pursuits, Daniel has spent thirty years as a professional personal trainer, a career that has given him a profound understanding of human form and the mechanics of movement—elements that subtly inform the balance and energy of his compositions.
Daniel’s work is heavily influenced by the Post-Impressionist Masters, specifically the expressive brushwork and luminous color palettes of Vincent van Gogh. He is drawn to the way color can be used not just to depict a subject, but to convey a specific energy or state of being. Technically, his work is characterized by the use of Encaustic methods—a specialized process involving the melting of wax—which he integrates with acrylics to create rich, multi-dimensional surfaces. This approach allows him to experiment with texture and light, seeking to capture the “vibration” of a scene through layers of depth and translucency.
“Art is a continuation of my lifelong commitment to discipline and exploration. Whether I am navigating the depths of the ocean or the complexities of a canvas, my goal is to uncover the underlying strength and vibrancy in my surroundings. I strive to create work that feels both grounded and alive.”
THE SPACE
The WEvent Space is a distinctive venue located in the heart of the Tower Grove South neighborhood, set within a beautifully restored church. Embracing the spirit of its historic roots, the space provides a laid-back, welcoming setting for a wide array of local live acts. Central to its mission is the WEConcert Series—an ongoing effort to reestablish the former church as a vibrant hub and gathering place for the community. Through music, art, and connection, WEvent Space invites all to be part of a shared creative experience in one of the neighborhood’s most unique venues.
